have i mentioned before that i love
because i do.
what else do i love?
& lots of it.
if i were to ever develop a lactose intolerance,
i would cry & cry & cry.
& then eat some cheese.
so, my dear, sweet, bfc
had this recipe for croque monsieurs.
basically, it's a super jazzed up
french grilled cheese with ham.
1 Tbs butter
1 1/2 Tbs flour
1 C hot milk
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
pinch of nutmeg
6 oz. shredded gruyere
1/4 c shredded parmesan
6 slices of bread, crusts trimmed
1 tomato, sliced
4 oz. ham, thinly sliced
1. preheat oven to 400 f.
2. in a small saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. whisk in flour until completely combined. add hot milk; stir constantly until sauce thickens. remove sauce from heat. add salt, pepper, nutmeg, 1/4 C of the shredded gruyere, and the parmesan. stir to melt cheese.
3. place bread on a sheet pan. bake for 5 minutes, flip & continue baking for 3 minutes.
4. remove toast from oven. top a piece of bread with mustard, ham, a tomato slice, shredded gruyere & another piece of toast. repeat 2 more times, the last time ending with the tomato.
5. pour the cheese sauce over the top of each sandwich. sprinkle with more gruyere. bake for 5 minutes, then turn on the broiler for 3 minutes, allowing the cheese to turn golden brown.
6. serve hot.
i could eat this sauce by itself.
this is a great meal.
